Health, Safety and Campus Security

The National University is actively identifies and manages health and safety risks, through the systematic identification of hazards, evaluation of risks and implementation of effective risk controls to develop an HSE management system and safety culture that minimises risk of injury or illness and encourages all NU community to actively manage health and safety risks.

HSE is everyone’s responsibility, and each of us has an important role to play and your contributions are invaluable in maintaining a Safe and Healthy environment for work, study, and growth at NU campuses. All staff and students are expected to follow & adhere to the HSE procedures.

Fire safety:

Fire safety at NU involves a variety of measures aimed at preventing fires and ensuring the safety of faculty, staff, and students. 

NU is conducting a periodical mock drill as per the fire action procedures and evaluating the emergency evacuation procedures for the corrective action and continual improvement of HSE.

Fire wardens & first aiders:

Fire wardens play a key role in keeping building occupants safe by assisting in evacuations and practicing fire prevention. CoE have a dedicated team of trained fire wardens and first aiders to assist the CoE community in case of emergencies. We conduct routine fire drills, as per the regulations and the guidelines issued by The Ministry of Higher Education, Research & Innovation (MOHERI) to familiarize the students and staff with the fire emergency procedure and the actions required in an emergency.

 

The purpose of the fire drill is

  • To review the evacuation and fire action procedure.
  • To test the effectiveness of communication with Emergency response groups/services.
  • To test the response time of fire wardens.
  • To evaluate the adequacy of existing resources & to identify any additional resources required.
  • To improve coordination amongst the emergency response groups /services and
  • To comply with the regulation.

All Lecturers and Laboratory staff are also requested to act as fire warden for their lecture theatre/Laboratory if an alarm occurs during the class.

All staff and students must follow the fire action procedure and report to the nearest assembly point in case of an emergency.
