Diploma in Chemical Engineering

Flexible mode of study: Full-time/ Part-time (weekend mode)

This two-year diploma program has an equal blend of theoretical, practical, ethical and environmental based courses that meet the needs of the country, industries, and society as a whole.

 

Program Description:

The diploma in Chemical Engineering program is a two-year full time degree program for those who want to gain knowledge in chemical engineering to pursue a career in industry or continue in graduate studies. The diploma program is 4 semesters of full-time study of two years duration and is in alignment with Oman’s National Qualifications Framework covering several subject fields and objectives of MoHERI and other stakeholders. The diploma program has an equal blend of theoretical, practical, ethical and environmental based courses that meet the needs of the country, industries and society. The program provides the opportunity for students to engage with open-ended problems and tasks with special focus on group working skills. One of the award requirements is that students are expected not only to pass the required courses but also to achieve a minimum GPA of 2.0 or above.

Program Objectives: 

The Diploma in Chemical Engineering aims to:

Succeed in their chosen careers in chemical engineering and related fields in a broad range of industries.

Engage in continuous education, professional development, and entrepreneurial activities.

Effectively participate in management and leadership roles in teamwork under various work environments  

Provide socially responsible, environment friendly solutions to Chemical engineering related broad-based problems adapting professional ethics.

Admission Requirements

Admission Criteria:

Pass in General Certificate Diploma or equivalent with grade not less than “C” with the following subjects:

    • Physics OR Chemistry
    • Pure Maths or Applied Maths
  • Prior Study of Chemistry is mandatory for  Chemical 
  • Pass in the university entrance test (Minimum 60% average required).

Program Articulation:

Students after successful completion of diploma and if they meet the set academic grades can apply for continuing their studies for BEng/ BTech degree program in the same chosen field of study or any other relevant field at  NU or any other Higher  Education Institutions.

Students after successful completion of this proposed Diploma and if they meet the set academic grades can apply for continuing their studies in the same chosen field of study for BEng degree in Chemical Engineering or any other relevant field.

International Internship and Collaborations:

The College of Engineering has strong collaboration with local and regional industries like Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), National Innovation Academy, National Aluminium Products Company, Oman Chlorine Company, Asian Paints, Occidental Oman, Oman Fiber Optic Company, Jotun Paints, Shell Oman, Oman gas company, Tebodin, Bio Products Oman SAOC, Galfar, Aspen Technology Inc. The collaborating industries offer support to our students by providing industrial internship opportunities, and site visits, sharing real-world insights by facilitating guest lecturers and workshops, and participating in career fairs. The industry link will ensure our students are equipped with both practical skills and theoretical knowledge by exposing them to the use of sophisticated and specialist equipment during site visits and similar opportunities. Collaboration with reputed universities including University of South Carolina, Glasgow Caledonian University.
