This student chapter was formed in January 2004 at College of Engineering, Al Hail Campus with an aim to provide student members with the access to the activities, resources (both academic and social) and networking of IEEE. This will assist them in finding suitable placements and career opportunities in the dynamic job market. Through the use of workshops, conferences, journals and networking opportunities provided by IEEE, this chapter has quickly grown and now includes members from technical areas such as Computer, Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering. IEEE student branch is the second student branch in the Sultanate of Oman. Various activities are being organized from time to time under this banner.

The Society of Petroleum Engineers, Students Chapter at the College of Engineering was inaugurated on 1 December 2008 by Hon’ble Mr. Suleiman Al Zakwani, the Chairperson, SPE, Oman. Prof. Frank McIntosh, Principal and Dean, in his welcome address, emphasized the importance of affiliations with professional bodies for the academic and professional development of a student and acknowledged the efforts of the department in this prominent endeavor. Society of Petroleum Engineers is an international professional association which has 79,000-plus members worldwide who are engaged in energy resources development and production. SPE is a key resource for technical information related to oil and gas exploration and production and provides services online, through its publications, meetings, and other programs.
Career and Education Operating Council of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers has granted approval in AY 2015 to launch a student chapter of AIChE at College of Engineering, NU. AIChE promotes networking, knowledge sharing and conduct scholarly activities at different parts of the world to encourage chemical and allied engineers to share experience, wisdom and opportunities. The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) is a certified body which represents professionals in the Building Industry, with varying expertise such as Architects, Planners and Surveyors. Meeting with professionals and the support provided by members assists students with understanding the latest developments happening in the industry. The Chartered Institute of Builders (i.e. professional members) arranges for guest lecturers to broaden the students’ view on latest construction technologies. The student chapter conducts activities such as – Quiz programmes, presentation of technical papers on selected themes, special address by eminent professionals and industrialists, exhibition of project work, design competitions, visit to construction sites etc. Members have access to local events and activities arranged through their CIOB regional office.
