The MSc in Chemical Process Engineering program is designed to develop a clear understanding of the chemical and process engineering discipline with a number of advanced core courses that are relevant to the changing priorities and requirements of the modern process industries. These include transport phenomena, applied process design, reaction engineering, process simulation and process instrumentation. By the completion of the program, students are equipped with skills and knowledge suitable for careers in chemical and process engineering, operations, management, and consultancy. They are also able to contribute to improving the effectiveness and efficiency of process industries.

Students enrolled in this program are required to complete 45 credit hours to be awarded the MSc degree.

Program Objectives:

The MSc Chemical Process Engineering Program aims to:

  1. Provide the postgraduate students with a comprehensive approach to invent, design, optimize and operate sustainable chemical processes for human needs.
  2. Provide a broad in-depth knowledge of current industrial research in the academic discipline of Process Engineering
  3. Provide students with skills necessary to successfully perform in the multidisciplinary environment of 21st century.
  4. Inculcate in students the desire for research and facilitate an understanding of master thesis deliverables.

Awards

  • Students who successfully complete 30 credit hours will be awarded Postgraduate Diploma in Process Engineering.
  • Students who successfully complete 45 credit hours will be awarded Master of Science in Process Engineering

MSc in Process Engineering is to provide the postgraduate students with a comprehensive approach to invent, design, optimize and operate sustainable processes for human needs. The design of the curriculum is made-to-order to meet the needs of ever-changing technology and business environment in the context of Global as well as Sultanate of Oman perspectives. In view of the huge operation of process plants of enormous value and criticality of operational supervision needs and essentiality of the conservation aspects of these needs, the country is in need of Process Engineers with skills supported by knowledge who can operate the processes. Career opportunities exist in government sectors, Ministries and major private organizations such as Petroleum Development Oman, Sohar and Oman refinery, Occidental Inc., MB Petroleum, Shell, Oman LNG, Oman gases LLC, Tebodin, Indo Oman fertilizers and many other organizations, contractors and consultants where process operations need to be planned and to be succeeded.

Entry Requirements

  • A Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a relevant engineering including chemical, process, petroleum, mechanical, energy and environment engineering program from an internationally recognised university.
  • Applicants must have CGPA of not less than “GOOD” or equivalent. Pass grade will be accepted if the candidate is having at least two years of experience in the field of specialisation.
  • Candidates from other disciplines may be considered case by case basis, if they have relevant work experience of not less than 3 years.
  • Proficiency in English language equivalent to IELTS band 6 or TOEFL score 550 or its equivalents.
  • Experienced students with diploma or advanced diploma will also be considered as per the MoHE regulations
