Exploring and Enhancing your Entrepreneurial Opportunities

The Department of Professional Development & Humanities, College of Engineering hosted a workshop on ‘Exploring and Enhancing your Entrepreneurial Opportunities’ on 21 October 2024. The workshop was facilitated by an eminent expert, Dr Barada Panigrahy, CEO of the Incubation Centre at Sri Sri University, with expertise in entrepreneurship mentoring, entrepreneurship ecosystem networking and supporting entrepreneurs in India and Africa in agri-tech entrepreneurship.

Dr Panigrahy shared his thoughts on why 80% of startups fail in 18 months. He attributed these failures to a lack of mentoring. Inadequate access to or absence of entrepreneurship ecosystem and lack of finance. He shared his model ‘DISRUPT’ for opportunity identification, which is particularly relevant to nascent entrepreneurs looking for ideas to develop into a business opportunity. ‘Entrepreneurship is a science, a discipline and is built on techniques just like any other discipline’ he said and interdisciplinary Project -Based activities is the sure way forward.

The event was graced by the Dean, Dr Ahmed Hassan Al Balushi, external stakeholders, engineering students, and College of Engineering staff.
