BEng. Civil Engineering has five concentrations
BEng Civil Engineering Program is a four-year degree program. It is designed to comply with Academic Board for Engineering & Technology (ABET), an international accreditation body in the US. At year 3, a civil engineering student has the option either to continue with Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering or can select one of the five available concentrations (specialties) which are Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, Water Resource Engineering, Environmental Engineering, and Construction Engineering. The degree is awarded after the successful completion of 132 credit hours of undergraduate courses listed in the curriculum including a compulsory industrial internship and capstone projects.
Civil Engineering is the most demanding specialization in the construction industry. Career opportunities are provided in various construction industries includes,
There has been a major surge in construction activities within the country in recent years, thanks to infrastructure developments and a diversified economy. They are concerned with planning, designing and executing buildings, bridges, roads, harbors, dams, airports, coastal protection, water supply and public health and also routine refurbishment and maintenance activities. There is a strong and steady demand for these engineers in various ministries and municipalities in Oman as well as in the private sector. Civil Engineers work for Ministries, Diwan of Royal Court, private industry, for consulting engineering and management firms, construction companies, mining companies and research establishments and, directly or indirectly, for almost every organization that has buildings. In short, career opportunities are plenty and this is borne out by the fact that graduates of the department have a high record of employment.
The educational objectives of Civil Engineering program at College of Engineering are to produce civil engineers that:
PEO 01: Have competent and essential knowledge in mathematics, science, and major of civil engineering that are necessary for success in construction industry and graduate programs.
