Fourteen Level 3 Electrical Power Engineering students of the Electrical and Communication Engineering department visited ACWA Power Barka Company on Thursday, 18 May 2023. The visit aimed to give students valuable practical insights into the electricity sector and its operations. It was an engaging and informative experience, offering participants a glimpse into their future as electrical engineers.
Initially, they presented a detailed overview of the visit plan, outlining the various areas we would explore and the approximate duration. Later, the participants were divided into two groups. They were engaged in stimulating conversations with Mr Talal and Mr Fatek, who led the groups throughout the power plant premises. We were enriched with insightful general information about ACWA Power Barka, fostering a deeper appreciation for the organization and its contributions to the energy sector. ACWA Power Barka combines power generation with fresh water production, addressing the local community’s vital needs. The students had a chance to witness the concepts of combined cycle and open cycle in generating stations, broadening our understanding of the intricacies of electricity generation. The students were privileged to see the seawater desalination plants.
The site visit to ACWA Power Barka was a precious and enlightening experience for all participants. They gained firsthand knowledge about various aspects of the electricity sector, from safety protocols to the intricate workings of generating stations. The ACWA Power Barka team exhibited outstanding cooperation and professionalism, encouraging the students to be aspiring electrical engineers. We sincerely appreciate the ACWA staff who facilitated the visit Mr Yousuf Al Farsi, Mr Fatek Amur Al-Amri, Mr Ibrahim Al Balushi and Mr Talal Al Mabsali. We also thank our alums, Mr Talal Al Mabsali, who was instrumental in arranging this visit.
