Governance and Management

Governance and Management at the National University of Science and Technology are founded on a strategic, transparent, and inclusive framework that supports the University’s commitment to sustainability. Beginning with the first five-year Strategic Plan in 2019, the University aligned its institutional priorities with its vision and mission while responding to national ambitions under Oman Vision 2040 and the national higher education agenda. Sustainability has been incorporated into institutional planning through the strategic destination of Governance and Growth, ensuring that environmental, social, and economic responsibility are reflected in decision-making at all levels.

The development of the University’s Second Strategic Plan (2024-2030) marked a significant advancement in governance practice by strengthening institutional oversight through three key pillars: the establishment of dedicated committees, the definition of clear pathways and processes, and the active engagement of internal and external stakeholders. This structured approach has created a more resilient governance model that encourages collaboration, accountability, and evidence-based decision-making. By combining leadership oversight with broad stakeholder participation, the University ensures that sustainability remains an integral part of its governance culture and long-term institutional development.

Implementation is supported through a bottom-up management approach, where colleges, departments, and administrative units translate strategic priorities into annual operational plans. Faculty, staff, and students contribute to identifying initiatives, while institutional leadership monitors progress through defined performance indicators and resource planning. This integrated governance system enables the University to continuously improve its operations, strengthen institutional effectiveness, and advance its vision of becoming a sustainable and future-ready institution.

The introduction of the fifth strategic destination, Sustainable Growth, in the University’s strategic framework reflects the strengthening of governance and management as key drivers of institutional sustainability at the National University of Science and Technology. Building on the governance structures established through earlier strategic plans, this destination emphasizes responsible expansion that balances academic excellence, financial resilience, environmental stewardship, and social responsibility. Through dedicated committees, defined processes, and active stakeholder participation, Sustainable Growth ensures that future development is planned within a transparent governance system that supports long-term institutional value. By embedding sustainability into strategic oversight and operational decision-making, the University reinforces its commitment to growth that is not only measurable, but also responsible and aligned with national priorities such as Oman Vision 2040.

Sustainable Growth represents a pivotal aspect of our collective journey towards a more sustainable future, underscored by a commitment to harnessing emerging educational technologies and aligning them with national priorities. This multifaceted mission comprises five overarching goals, designed to address both challenges and opportunities on our path to progress. These goals encapsulate our steadfast commitment to fostering sustainable growth in education and society. Accompanying these goals are twenty-three meticulously crafted objectives, each bolstered by a set of quantifiable indicators and targets, all overseen by dedicated individuals who bear the responsibility for ensuring the successful realization of these ambitions. By intertwining innovation and national priorities, we endeavor to lay the foundation for a future that not only meets the demands of the present but also safeguards the prosperity of generations yet to come, marking a significant stride towards building a sustainable and equitable Oman and World at large.
