Under the patronage of His Highness Sayyid Asaad bin Tariq Al Said, the Deputy Prime Minister for International Relations and Cooperation Affairs and Special Representative of His Majesty the Sultan, it was a proud and historical moment when the National University of Science & Technology (NU) officially opened its doors and was dedicated to the Nation in 2018. A new star is born in the galaxy of higher education. The pedigree of the National University is legendary and is destined to become an icon of Higher Education, Learning and Research in Oman, driven by its Social Values.
The National University of Science and Technology (NU) https://nu.edu.om/ a multi-campus private university in Oman, traces its roots to the establishment of the first private Engineering College in 1996 (Caledonian College of Engineering) and the first private Medical College in 2001 (Oman Medical College). Responding to the call of the late His Majesty three prolific businessmen, philanthropists, and educationists Sheikh Salem Al Fannah Al Araimi, Dr P Mohamed Ali, and Late Mohammed Rashid Al Fannah and Al Araimi, founded by these institutions and has garnered recognition for producing high-quality graduates in Engineering, Medicine, Pharmacy, Maritime and Marine Engineering, and have since graduated more than 16,000 professionals and are deeply committed to the development and capacity building.
The University Board of Directors (BOD), Chaired by Dr. P. Mohamed Ali, oversees the key directives for governing the University. Additionally, the Board of Trustees (BoT), chaired by His Excellency Dr. Abdullah Mohammed Al Sarmi (a member of the State Council of Oman), plays a significant role in shaping institutional strategies. NU is led by an Executive Team, comprising the Honourable Vice-Chancellor Dr Ali bin Soud Al Bimani (a member of the State Council of Oman), who is supported by a Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Research, a Deputy Vice-Chancellor for Administration and Financial Affairs, and an Assistant Vice-Chancellor for Community Engagement & Projects and the Colleges headed by the Deans and supported by Directors.
NU’s current World and Regional Ranking projects include the QS Arab, THE Arab and other World Rankings, which have brought enhanced visibility and branding for the university and make NU a preferred study destination for National and international students. NU’s achievements in the world academic ranking and academic awards exhibit the Quality and Standard of the offerings and the truly international nature of the university, besides developing the Intellectual Capital for the Sultanate of Oman and serving the local community.
As a founding member of National University Executive, I reiterate my pledge to uphold the Quality and Standards, to make NU one of the best places in Oman to work, learn and grow.
