BSc in Cyber Security

Program Description:

BSc Cyber Security is a comprehensive 4-year undergraduate programme designed to equip students with in-depth knowledge and practical skills in the field of cyber security. The curriculum covers a wide range of critical topics, including cyber security management, cryptography, network security, ethical hacking, and digital forensics. Through a combination of theoretical learning and hands-on experience, students develop the competencies necessary to identify, analyze, and mitigate cyber threats in real-world environments.

The programme aims to address the growing need for skilled cyber security professionals capable of safeguarding digital systems, infrastructure, and sensitive information from malicious attacks. In today’s interconnected world, protecting data and systems has become essential across all sectors—government, healthcare, finance, education, and more.

Graduates of this programme will be well-prepared for a variety of roles such as Cyber Security Analyst, Information Security Officer, Penetration Tester, Security Consultant, and Incident Responder. There is a strong demand for cyber security experts in both public and private sectors, including law enforcement agencies, defence organizations, IT companies, and multinational corporations.

Program Objectives:

The BSc in Cyber Security aims to prepare students to:

• Analyze various cyber security issues in the economic, social and global context and suggest appropriate mitigating measures.

• Continuously update their knowledge and skills to stay informed of the current cybersecurity trends, be able to investigate an organization’s security needs and securing by employing appropriate cyber/computer forensic software/tools.

• Demonstrate leadership, management and teamwork skills to contribute for the well-being of society through information security services.

• Aspire for and practice high professional and ethical standards to protect sensitive data and be capable of designing and implementing cybersecurity strategies and policies.

Admission Requirements:

  • Pass in General Education Diploma or equivalent with a grade not less than “C” in Mathematics.

Note: Students will be placed at an appropriate level of study based on the outcome of the NU Placement Test.

Program Articulation:

Students who have completed 12 years of schooling from any academic stream that includes mathematics are eligible to enrol in this programme, provided they meet the specified admission criteria. The BSc Cyber Security programme prepares students for a wide range of career opportunities in the rapidly evolving field of digital security.

Upon graduation, students will be qualified for diverse and high-demand roles such as Cyber Security Analyst, Security Operations Center (SOC) Analyst, Penetration Tester (Ethical Hacker), Information Security Officer, Digital Forensics Analyst, Network Security Engineer, Risk and Compliance Analyst, and Security Consultant. These roles span across sectors including government, defense, banking and finance, healthcare, IT services, e-commerce, and multinational corporations.

In addition to immediate employment, graduates can pursue advanced studies in specialized areas such as Cyber Security, Information Security, Digital Forensics, Network Security, or Cyber Law, leading to Master’s and PhD degrees. These advanced qualifications can further open up careers in research, academia, policy-making, or senior leadership positions in cyber risk management and security architecture.

International Internship and Collaborations:

NU has academic collaborations with USC, WVU in the USA and GCU in the UK. It is currently seeking collaboration with Nanyang Technological University (NTU), Singapore for its academic programs offered at the College of Advanced Technology, including BSc in Artificial Intelligence.
