The National University of Science and Technology celebrates the graduation ceremony of a new cohort 2023-2024

The National University of Science and Technology has conducted the Graduation Ceremony for the year 2023-24 for 30th January 2025 at 6:30 pm at Oman Convention & Exhibition Center. The graduation was patronized by His Excellency Dr Mohammed Bin Saeed Bin Khalfan Al-Mamari, Minister of Endowments and Religious Affairs. 817 graduands of different programs in Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering, and Maritime studies have been conferred the titles of their programs. 

Dr P Mohammed Ali, Chairman of the Board of Directors delivered the Welcome Address, and the Vice Chancellor, Dr Ali Al Bimani conveyed the congratulatory message. Dr Christopher Martin, Director for Global Engagement of West Virginia University, USA, Prof Iain Cameron of Glasgow Caledonian University, UK and Dr Hossein Haj-Hariri of University of South Carolina, USA facilitated at the function. Dr Salim Al Araimi, the Deputy Vice Chancellor delivered the Vote of Thanks. Additionally, the graduation witnessed the distribution of academic awards instituted after its founders viz Sheikh Salim Al Fannah Al Araimi Award for 6 top scorers, Dr P Mohammed Ali Academic Excellence award for 12 best performers in academics, and (Late) Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Fannah Al Araimi citizenship awards for 8 graduands with exceptional quality of citizenship and studentship.  This awards were given away by the Chief guest His Excellency Dr Mohammed Bin Saeed Bin Khalfan Al-Mamari. Ms Fadwa Al Fannah Al Araimi, Ms Budoor Al Fannah Al Araimi, Ms Khulood Al Fannah Al Araimi and Mr Mohiuddin Mohammed Ali, the members of the Board of Directors jointed the Chief guest as the representative of the families who instituted the award.  

The National University has an excellent track record of having produced more than 16,000 professionals in Medicine, Pharmacy, Engineering and Maritime Studies. Its graduates earned reputation for their professionalism and skill wherever they were engaged, and many of them work abroad. The National University of Science and Technology was established as a private university in 2018 as per the regulations in the Sultanate of Oman. The university was the outcome of merging two premier higher education institutions in the country, Caledonian College of Engineering (CCE) and Oman Medical College (OMC), with an impressive legacy of providing quality education in engineering education and research, medicine and pharmacy. 

Having earned excellent testimonies in infrastructure industries, the founders Sheikh Salim Saeed Hamed Al Fannah Al Araimi, 
Dr P Mohamed Ali, (Late) Mohamed Rashid Abdullah Al Fannah Al Araimi stepped into the endeavors for the transformation of the human capital in the country through the establishment of these two higher education institutions. In 1996, Caledonian College of Engineering was established in academic affiliation with Glasgow Caledonian University, which soon became a center of excellence for UG, PG and research programs in engineering. It has earned the institutional accreditation of OAAA in 2018. Oman Medical College was established in 2001 in academic affiliation with West Virginia University, USA. In 2003, the pharmacy department was established under the OMC. Its graduates have been noted for their quality and dedication. 

Subsequent to the award of the university status, the National University deployed a multi campus format for its academic operations. The Headquarters is located in Bausher. Now, the NU consists of five colleges, which includes College of Engineering, College of Medicine and Health Sciences, College of Pharmacy, International Maritime College, College of Advanced Technologies, and the School of Foundation Studies. The International Maritime College was merged to the National University of Science and Technology in 2022-23. The university has around 5000 students and 673 staff on its roll now, and its demographic composition is impressively diverse with students and faculties from 33 nations. 

The university is poised for institutional growth with a focus on frontier domains in higher education. Recently, the university has completed the procedures for accreditation of OAAA. The medical program has earned international accreditation from TEPDAD. NU has been ranked in the forefront as per the QS ranking system, and its competencies have been noted for its vibrant visibility and impact. The 2nd strategic plan of the National University has ambitious endeavors visualizing a sustainable progression. It sets its trajectory to expand in size of the NU systems, enhance in quality systems and engage on national and global priorities.
