Research News: New Industry Challenge is Opened: High Water Salinity at Wadi Adai- GIS case study

Dear Researchers,

Greetings,

A new industry challenge is posted in EJAAD and is open for submission. It is highly appreciated if you can spread the message to all relevant researchers in your well-esteemed organization. Details are as following:

Title of the industry challenge: High Water Salinity at Wadi Adai- GIS case study

Type of Submission: Full Proposal

Challenge(s) Description: Wadi Adai wells is located in Wilayat Mutrah in Muscat Governorate. Diam is using these wells mainly to supply drinking water for customers during emergencies. So, Wadi Adai WF is used during emergency and planned outage of main Desalination Plant.

In the recent years, Diam has observed an increase in water salinity at Wadi Adai WF, though it is located far away from the sea. As a solution Diam has planned to blend WF water with desalted water to reduce the salinity, however the final blended water was high salinity and exceeding Omani standard for drinking water. Diam has already floated a tender for treating Wadi Adai WF but it received option offers to treat the sea water instead of the saline wells and Diam prefer to go ahead with that.

Currently, Diam is seeking for GIS/ Modeling case study to investigate the high salinity at Wadi Audi wells area and to determine several options that could be implemented in the region to provide drinking water services in emergency cases.
