Reliability Analysis and Condition Monitoring of an Electrical Power Substation for enhanced Quality and Continuity of Services in Power Sector of Sultanate of Oman

Summary

This proposal aims to integrate the condition monitoring techniques for electrical substation equipment using thermal as well as corona imaging with the probabilistic system modelling of the entire system for devising a comprehensive preventive maintenance strategy that will result in enhanced quality and continuity of services.

Objectives

  1. To identify the key variables required for the reliability analysis and assessment of system performance in terms of quality and continuity of services
  2. To collect data pertaining to faults and outages of various electrical equipment in the power substation for a minimum of the past 5 years
  3. To perform the real-time condition monitoring of electrical substation equipment using thermal  imaging and corona imaging techniques
  4. To develop robust models of the electrical substation, based on acquired data and operating    conditions, to perform reliability analysis of the same
  5. To estimate the reliability indices such as Mean Time to Failure, Availability, Maintainability,     Dependability of the system
  6. To formulate an optimum preventive maintenance strategy for the substation operation based on the estimated outcomes in terms of reliability indices
