The International Maritime College Oman (IMCO) marked a significant milestone on 28th April 2025 with the Official Launch of the Master of Science (MSc) in Process Plant Technology and Management, a program carefully designed to bridge the gap between academia and industry and to develop the next generation of engineering leaders. The prestigious launch event, held at the Crowne Plaza Ballroom in Sohar, gathered an esteemed audience comprising industry leaders, senior academicians, IMCO alumni, and aspiring students, all brought together by a shared vision: advancing engineering leadership for Oman’s future. The ceremony commenced with a Recitation from the Holy Quran, setting a respectful and reflective tone for the proceedings. This was followed by a warm Welcome Address delivered by Capt. P. Rajkumar, Dean of IMCO, who emphasized the importance of aligning academic programs with industry demands and global engineering standards. Dr. Salim Al Araimi, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Provost, delivered the Opening Address, highlighting IMCO’s commitment to educational excellence, innovation, and its strategic role in supporting Oman’s Vision 2040, particularly in the fields of engineering, technology, and sustainable industry development. A key highlight of the event was the keynote speech by Chief Guest, Mr. Faiz Al Jabri, the Acting Vice President of People and Culture at OQ, who delivered an insightful talk on “Insights into the Future of the Process Industry in Oman.” Mr. Al Jabri addressed emerging trends, challenges, and opportunities within Oman’s industrial landscape, stressing the critical need for highly skilled engineers who are not only technically proficient but also capable of driving strategic initiatives and technological innovations. Following the keynote, Prof. Abdelghani Benayoune, Assistant Dean for Graduate Studies and Research, spoke on “Empowering the Next Generation of Engineering Leaders.” He elaborated on how the MSc program will cultivate leadership skills, critical thinking, and research capabilities essential for tackling complex industrial challenges. A detailed overview of the MSc in Process Plant Technology and Management was presented by Dr. Jimoh K. Adewole, Head of the Process Engineering Department. He highlighted the program’s comprehensive curriculum, its practical industry-oriented approach, uniqueness, and the flexibility offered to working professionals. Dr. Adewole underlined that the program covers essential areas such as advanced process technology and systems, process intensification and sustainability, big data and artificial intelligent in the process industry, risk management, plant operations, economics and financial management for engineers, and strategic change management. The audience was then inspired by our IMCO alumni, Eng. Azza Al Subhi, who shared her personal journey and professional achievements. Her testimonial reflected the strength of IMCO’s academic foundation and the transformative impact of continuous learning and skill development. Prof. Ramachandran K. P., the Deanship of Graduate Studies and Research, further reinforced the importance of graduate education in achieving technological advancement and building research capacities within Oman. The culmination of the event was the Official Launch Ceremony, symbolically led by Capt. P. Rajkumar, alongside the Chief Guest, marking the formal introduction of the MSc program. The moment was celebrated as a bold step forward for IMCO and the academic and industrial community at large. The event concluded with a Networking Session, where attendees engaged in lively discussions over refreshments, forging new connections between academia, industry, and future postgraduate students.
