Harnessing Nanomaterials for Onboard Ship Wastewater Treatment

Wastewater treatment is extremely important for several reasons, including protecting the environment and public health, preserving natural resources, and reducing freshwater depletion (Science, 2018). In addition to regulatory compliance, which is stipulated in international regulations in Appendix IV of the MARPOL agreement to determine wastewater treatment standards to reduce from the phenomenon of marine pollution (Author links open overlay panel Qing Chen a b et al., 2021). Wastewater treatment usually includes processes such as screening, sedimentation, biological treatment, and disinfection to remove contaminants. In this era, the uses of nanoparticles have formed a wide range in various sectors, as nanoparticles are considered promising in the field of wastewater treatment due to their ability to enhance efficiency and improve the quality of treated water. This study includes the use of nanoparticles to treat wastewater on board ships to improve the efficiency of treated water on board ships to be reused without the need for drainage.

Objectives

1.      1. Application of shipboard wastewater treatment using nanoparticles.
