This project aims at the extraction and characterization of biomaterial from plant-based resources and agricultural residues. Further, the study focuses on development of green composites incorporated with nanocellulose and its applications in corrosion prevention. Present investigation identify different sources of natural fibres in Oman, followed by their characterization, chemical treatment of biofibres and development of composites to tailor make the properties of composites. Presently green composites find applications in several fields, such as structural materials, automobiles and packaging to name a few.
Major Objectives :
(i) Extraction of nanocellulose from locally available agro-industrial waste (ii) Surface modification of nanocellulose to enhance its compatibility in the polymer matrix (iii) Evaluating optimum composition using D-optimal mixture design. (iv) Characterize the properties of extracted nanocellulose by optical and thermal methods (v) Developing nanocomposites for corrosion inhibition in Oil and gas industries.
