The first Research day of the National University was inaugurated by His Excellency Eng. Khamis bin Mohammed bin Abdullah Al Shamakhi, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Transport, Communications and Information Technology for Transport, on 21st September 2021 . NU is making concerted efforts to support and promote research and innovation activities of students and faculty. The research day is organized to encourage and foster research from various colleges and departments of NU to present their work to various stakeholders including industries and the community.
In his inaugural address, Dr. P Mohamed Ali Chairman of the University Executive Board and Pro- chancellor highlighted the importance of research & innovation and the relevance of research in solving the ongoing challenges of pandemic diseases, as millions life are saved due to the relentless efforts of researchers. He added that NU faculty and student researchers must think creatively and work beyond disciplines to solve the challenges we are facing in this rapidly changing world.
The day was started with the welcome address by Dr. Ali Saud Al Bimani . He mentioned that NU research and innovation efforts are continuously evolving and making steady progress. NU has achieved considerable success in terms of funded research projects, student and staff research publications, scholarly activities, and research collaborations. He added that Research day is an important calendar event of the University as it provides students and faculty with a forum to present their research and innovation work.
Dr. Sultan Al Shidhani, Petroleum Engineering Function Director, PDO, in his keynote address, highlighted the need for efforts by academia, industries, to transfer research results swiftly onto societal and industrial applications. He added that Industries would be looking for a graduate with the right knowledge, nourished with practical skills and research aptitude who can provide smart solutions in a quick time.
This research day is featured by presentations from both faculty and students researchers from the College of Engineering, College of Pharmacy, and College of Medicine and Health Sciences. The most outstanding presentations and best research work under faculty and student categories were considered for awards and prizes. Dr. Salim Khamis Al Araimi the Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost in his concluding remarks stated that NU is always committed to excellence in research and education for building the intellectual capital of Oman.
