  • Surgery sub-internship (MD6): Duration 6 weeks

During the placement in MD5, the students will learn the basic and core knowledge and skills while during the MD6 the student doing sub internship with expanded knowledge and skills and prepare to work as safe intern doctor in the hospital after graduation .

MD5 Course description

The duration of the surgical MD5 clerkship is 6 weeks. The student learns to gather information directly from patients. This part of the course is delivered at Rustaq hospital and training centre. As all clinical learning takes place in the hospital, the students would understand the importance of system-based approach in the health care delivery system. The course aims to familiarize the student with common surgical diseases.

The contents of the course include both hospital and College-based activities.

Hospital-based activities aim at patient-student interaction. They include morning ward rounds and morning meetings with hospital faculty as well as department faculty. They also include attending outpatient department (OPD) and operating theatre (OT) sessions.

College-based activities include student led lectures supervised by faculty, called student-lead seminars (SLS) as well as Faculty lectures and student directed learning (SDLs). All these activities are interactive. The hot case is an integrated session where two departments teaching similar topics come together and create a learning module for the two groups of students posted in their departments. The students gather information directly from patients and discuss them together at forums before presenting the data to their teachers.
