Welcome to the Department of Physiology. We are involved in assisting students to gain knowledge about the physiological processes that are important in keeping our body functioning. We teach general, cellular, and systemic physiology in the Human Physiology course. In addition, the department is involved in teaching neurophysiology, which forms a large component of the integrated Neurobiology course
Human Physiology course: This is a 34-week course offered to the students in the MD2 year. This course focuses on providing understanding the fundamental principles in medical physiology and help students to apply the knowledge of Physiology during their clinical encounters.
The physiology laboratory is equipped with digital data acquisition systems and accessories for performing experiments like spirometry, ECG, EMG, tendon reflexes, Blood pressure, heart rate, pulse, phonocardiogram, and motor nerve conduction studies.
Educational research activities on active learning and early clinical exposure through case based integrated sessions were conducted in the department. The newly furnished Physiology lab has expanded the opportunities for conducting Physiological and cognitive psychological research in the department.
Recent publication from the department on active learning: Vivekananth Subbiramaniyan, Chandrashekhar Apte, and Ciraj Ali Mohammed, A meme-based approach for enhancing student engagement and learning in renal physiology. ADV PHYSIOL EDUC 28 OCT 2021.
