About department

Department of Pharmacology offers Medical Pharmacology course, which covers drugs, their mechanism of action, side effects and indications in clinical conditions. Much emphasis is given to the therapeutic applications in a clinical setting and practice of rational prescription writing.

Course Objectives

Objectives of this course are: At the end of this course students will be able to:

  • Classify major classes of drugs and major compounds within each class.         
  • Explain the pharmacodynamic principles underlying the therapeutic and adverse effects of drugs.         
  • Explain how the pharmacokinetics parameters contribute to individualizing drug dosages.
  • Apply the knowledge of adverse effects, precautions, contraindications, and toxicities of various drug classes in various clinical conditions.                  
  • Relate pharmacological actions to therapeutic uses of individual group of drugs.                   
  • Translate the pharmacological principles into therapeutic decisions.         

Programs and Courses offered:

The Department of Pharmacology offers the Medical Pharmacology course. The teaching strategies include didactic lectures and small group activities to enhance critical problem-solving skills. These include case-based learning, self-directed learning, and integrated sessions.
