Welcome to the Department of Internal Medicine at the College of Medicine & Health Sciences, National University of Science & Technology. The Department is committed to excellence in education, clinical service, and research. Our faculty members have major clinical and teaching roles in serving as clinicians and educators.

Course Objectives

Medicine clerkship Course Learning Outcomes:
  • CLO1: Discuss the clinical features of common diseases based on pathophysiological mechanisms learnt during the earlier years/courses
  • CLO2: Perform a focused history and physical examination in skill lab by using mannequins/ simulators/ instruments
  • CLO3: Perform basic clinical and practical exercises in ambulatory and practice setting using mannequins/ simulators/ instruments and patients
  • CLO4: Discuss the factors that influence clinical decision making based on the history and clinical findings obtained from patients/attendants
  • CLO5: Select investigations and management options based on clinical findings, relevant radiologic and laboratory findings with a robust evidence-based approach as and when required.
  • CLO6: Communicate appropriately to patients, caregivers, teachers, peers, and any other members of the health care team adhering to ethical codes and conducts
Medicine clerkship Course Learning Outcomes:
  • CLO1 : Explain the pathophysiology of common diseases based on clinical manifestations
  • CLO2 : Obtain an accurate and complete medical history from patients and attendants
  • CLO3 : Perform a complete and accurate physical examination using standard techniques on patients.
  • CLO4 : Infer appropriate investigations based on history, examination findings and differential diagnosis.
  • CLO5 : Describe a management plan based on the differential diagnosis and investigations.
  • CLO6 : Display good communication skills showing empathy and respect towards patients, teachers and all members of the health team.
Medicine sub-internship Course Learning Outcomes:

  • CLO1: Relate pathophysiological mechanisms to the causation and manifestations of common diseases
  • CLO2: Perform a focused history and clinical examination to elicit clinical findings using appropriate skills and standard techniques.
  • CLO3: Infer provisional diagnosis based on focused history taking and clinical examination findings
  • CLO4: Select an investigation plan to confirm the diagnosis
  • CLO5: Construct a problem-oriented evidence-based management plan based on history, clinical examination, and investigations
  • CLO6: Communicate effectively and professionally with the patients and their attendants, peers, and members of healthcare teams
