Safe Handling and Management of Hazardous Chemicals (Conditions of Precursors)

The HSE and Risk Management Office at College of Pharmacy organized a workshop in coordination with the Directorate General of Combating Drugs & Psychotropic Substances (Royal Oman Police) titled “Safe Handling and Management of Hazardous Chemicals (Conditions of Precursors)”. The workshop targeted lab instructors and staff who handle chemicals in their daily work.


The session aimed to enhance awareness of safe practices related to the handling, storage, and management of hazardous chemicals, with particular focus on the regulatory conditions and control requirements related to chemical precursors. The importance of compliance with applicable regulations and institutional procedures was also emphasized to ensure a safe and controlled laboratory environment.
During the workshop, the representatives from the Royal Oman Police delivered an informative presentation covering key topics, including:
•    Identification and classification of hazardous chemicals and precursors
•    Conditions and regulatory requirements for handling precursor chemicals
•    Safe handling, storage, and documentation practices
•    Potential risks associated with improper use and preventive measures


The session was interactive, with active participation from attendees through questions and discussions relevant to their laboratory practices which contributed to strengthening awareness, compliance, and overall safety culture within the College of Pharmacy.
