The industry and community engagement committee chaired by Prof. Majed AbuKhader has successfully organized a short course titled: Medication Therapy Management and Patient Safety which was conducted in two days. The course was sponsored by the Oman Pharmaceutical Society and OMSB-CPD accredited for 6.5 points. There were four speakers presented and shared their expertise in medication management, counselling and adherence and patient safety. The speakers were from industry and academia and covered a wide range of topics to suit the audience from mixed backgrounds. In day one, Dr Yaman Kassab presented topics related to medication errors and drug related problems, Ph. Hamed AlKhanjary (Diwan Health Complex – Muscat) presented a topic related to patient counselling and its challenges and Ph. Wafa AlBalushi (Rustaq Hospital) talked about medication adherence and monitoring. In day two, Dr Safiya AlShahi (Healthcare consultant) presented topics related to quality and patient safety, Risk analysis assessment and performance improvement in the medical setting. The feedback collected from the participants was positive and they appreciated the efforts in offering such short courses to the pharmacists in the pharmaceutical sector which can add positively into their career development.
