Dr. Khalid Al Balushi

Welcome to the College of Pharmacy at the National University of Science and Technology, Oman.

Our College of Pharmacy offers a four-year Bachelor of Pharmacy (B. Pharm) program in academic partnership with the University of West Virginia, USA. The Program is running successfully since 2003 (under Oman Medical College at that time). The B.Pharm degree offers an in-depth education on Pharmaceutical care, patient safety and imparts professional skills in the manufacturing and handling of drugs. Our students are exposed to professional health care including observational trips and clinical rotations/training in the hospitals and community pharmacies in Oman and/or abroad.

We recently introduced Master of Science in Clinical Pharmacy as one of our new programs. The M.Sc. program in Clinical Pharmacy is designed to prepare graduate students professionally competent with deep subject knowledge and skills that matches with the growing need for patient – centered pharmaceutical care service in Oman and abroad. The students will be exposed to pathophysiological basis of pharmacotherapeutics and medicine optimization to work as medication management specialists.

We at the College of Pharmacy are committed to providing high-quality education and training that prepares our graduates with the necessary skills to be competent pharmacists and to be able to join the job market in hospital/clinical pharmacies, community pharmacies, industrial pharmacy, academia, research and pharmaceutical marketing.

Dr. Khalid Al Balushi

Biography

Dr. Khalid Al Balushi, Dean of College of Pharmacy at the National University of Science and Technology got his first degree, BSc (Health Sciences) from College of Medicine at Sultan Qaboos University, Sultanate of Oman, in 1999. He completed his MSc degree in Clinical Pharmacology from the Department of Medicine and Therapeutics, University of Aberdeen, UK in 2002. He was a warded a PhD in Therapeutics from the Division of Therapeutics and Molecular Medicine, The University of Nottingham, UK, in 2008.

Before joining National University, Dr. Khalid worked in the College of Medicine and Health Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University for 20 years. He Held the position of Assistant Dean of Postgraduate Studies and Research at the College of Medicine and Health Sciences from September 2013 till March 2018. He was the Assistant Dean of Research at the Deanship of Research of Sultan Qaboos University from March 2018 till end of December 2019. Dr Khalid was a faculty member of the Department of Pharmacology and Clinical Pharmacy during the same period delivering his teaching and conducting his research. He supervised many undergraduate and postgraduate students in their research projects.

Dr Khalid Al Balushi is an Associate Professor of Pharmacology with more than 32 publications in peer-reviewed journals. His H-index is 12 with a round 700 citations. His major areas of research interest are Pharmacogenomics of diseases in the Omani population and Drug prescribing patterns in Oman.
