National University Startup program was held at the College of Engineering, National University over a period of three days from 17th to 19th October 2024. The event trained and guided students on becoming entrepreneurs. Mentors from professions in business, banking, engineering, etc. shared their experiences on how to build a startup idea. Under the care of Tech-start company, US, they learnt about “How to start up a Business” and the basic concepts of building a small business.
Three students from the College of Pharmacy participated in this event and their teams won first and second place.
Hoda Abdelaziz Salam NU203841, with her “Eco Pack” team won First Place at Techstars StartUp Weekend for Innovative Bioplastic Project. The idea of project was to transform palm waste in Oman into biodegradable bioplastics, providing an eco-friendly alternative to conventional plastics while promoting a circular economy and reducing environmental impact.
Maria Khamis Mohammed Ali Al Alawi, a MSc. student at College of Pharmacy and her team won second place for their project in the Health Care field under the best creative project category.
Osama Mustafa Yaqboub Al Hinai NU230058, a 2nd year student at CoP presented the project, Aoun (عون), which was based on solving an issue which many students in higher education institutes face (HEI), regarding the lack of awareness regarding university social events. As part of their team project, they created a website that can serve as a centralized hub/portal for all university events/workshops happening across HEIs. He is looking forward to applying these skills in his personal projects too.
