Dr Geetha Devi

Associate Professor

Expertise in Nanotechnology. Develop and apply nanotechnology innovations through transforming laboratory research into industrial-scale development of new products by innovative techniques through novel materials from natural and renewable resources, bio materials, polymers, photo catalysis, and corrosion inhibitors for Industrial effluent treatments, waste management, eliminating waste and the continual use of resources in order to give emphasis to economical and sustainable solutions. Current area of research include the development of novel nano materials and their characterization. Expertise in industrial pollution control and corrosion inhibition in oil and gas industries.

    Description: Designed and Developed a waste water treatment system using nanotechnology for the tretament of textile industry effluenr.

    Description: A Research Project titled Preparation and Characterization of Polyelectrolyte Nano Particle was awarded under Caledonian Student Research Support Programme (CSRSP) during A/C 2015-16. The main objective of the research project was to develop polyelectrolyte nano particles of size around 200 nm for the waste water treatment applications.
    Outcome: The outcome of the research was published in an international peer reviewed Journal SCOPUS (Indian Institute of Chemical Engineer).

    Description: Research project Project titled Synthesis and Characterization of Magnetite Nano Particles for Heavy Metal Removal¿ was awarded under Caledonian Student Research Support Programme (CSRSP) During the A/C 2016-17 as Faculty Mentor.The objectives of the research project are (i) To synthesize Magnetic nanoparticles of size less than 50 nm. (ii) Characterization and size distribution of synthesized Nano particles using Dynamic Light scattering (DLS), BET surface area analyzer, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), FTIR and XRD. (iii)Asses the capability of Magnetic Nano particles in the removal of heavy metal ions present in industrial waste water and optimize the process conditions.
    Outcome: The research project was successfully completed in April 2018. The outcome of the research was published in (Applied Water Science, a springer Journal)an international peer reviewed journal.

    Description: Title of the Project: Feasibility Study to Design a Pre-Treatment Facility to Arrest Calcium Carbonate Deposition on the Screens. Majis Industrial Services (S.A.O.C) was established in 2006 to provide water services to Oman¿s growing industrial port and other special economic areas in Sohar, drawing sea water from Gulf of Oman at a rate of nearly 86000 m3/hr.
    Outcome: Preliminary research studies was carried out by collecting the samples during summer (June, 2017) from Majis Industrial Services (S.A.O.C). The analysis was performed by various analytical techniques and the composition was determined. Based on the results of preliminary investigation a pretreatment pilot plant will be designed to arrest the calcium carbonate deposition at the intake screen.
