The College of Engineering of the National University of Science and Technology successfully hosted the Eighth Finishing School -2019

The College of Engineering of the National University of Science and Technology successfully hosted the Eighth Finishing School -2019 from 15 Sept. 2019 to 24th Sep.2019. The Finishing School 2019 was jointly organized by the Department of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering, Civil and Environmental Engineering and Electronics and Computer Engineering of College of Engineering.  The event was spread across 8 days which included with various training programs like interpersonal skills development, employability skills, HSE training, mock interview  and other activities based training session that is additionally required to for the fresh graduates to be more employable engineers.

This event is inaugurated on 15th September by an esteemed consultant and motivational speaker, Mr Hisham Said Al Ghunaimi, and presided by the Dean of the College of Engineering Prof. Dr Ahmed Hassan Al Bulushi. Mr Hisham Said Al Ghunaimi, in his address, has motivated the graduating engineers to take initiative in their working environment to lead a better career with additional certification courses and training. The dean in his presidential address has advised the fresh graduates on the importance of willpower to sustained growth with real-time examples.

The first day of the Finishing school witnessed, a training session on Industry profiling which gave the participants hands to identify and profile the potential employer for the better employment opportunities with available qualification and expertise.  Personality development and motivation workshop were organized on the second day of the by HR and Training experts representatives of Al Naba Group of companies followed by expert talk by college alumni Mr Haitham Al harthi, Acceptance management Team Lead, Omantel. The third day witnessed training sessions on Employability skills development, Effective CV preparations and preparation for an interview by executives from Al Nawa Management & HRD Consultants.  The event also covered a dedicated field trips to Muscat Airport MC13 site and Oman Cement Company with an intention provide the onsite experience on the day of employment the participants were sent to on the fourth day.  On the Fifth day, the participants were given exposure to the Project Management and Technical sessions on HVAC and SCADA by the practising engineers form Galfar Industries. HSE industrial processes, training on fire safety and first aid and mock drill was conducted by HSE professionals from the Industries representing Oman HSE professionals on the sixth day of the event. The graduating engineers also have given with entrepreneur development programme (EDP) by Oman Academy for SME along with sharing of experience by a successful entrepreneur Ms Zuwaina Al Rashdi, CEO of Handicrafts House. The event FS ended on the eighth day with mock interview sessions conducted by the expert team representing Al Siraj Holdings.

The 8th Finishing school event was concluded on 24th September with a valedictory session presided by woman young Omani engineer Ms Hannan Al Harthy, Training and Development Coordinator, Senior planning Engineer at Galfar. Ms Hannan Al Harthy is in her valedictory address inspired the participants with her own success story and gave a motivational talk to the participants. Prof. Dr Ahmed Hassan Al Bulushi, honoured the guest with a memento and reiterated that these kinds of the event will be envisaged and hosted to enable our graduates to enhance their soft skills, competencies, build confidence and presentation ability which is a very good and healthy environment for capacity building. He added that the College of Engineering at the National University, play a pivotal role in shaping the new graduating engineers towards professional engineering disciplines.
