Cambridge Training Courses for English Language Teachers

National University of Science and Technology
School of Foundation
Airport Heights Campus

The staff and management of the School of Foundation were pleased to welcome teachers from universities and private institutes to the workshop entitled ‘Cambridge Training Courses for English Language Teachers’ on Tuesday 23rd April at the Airport Heights campus. The workshop was designed to inspire both new and experienced teachers to take the next steps in their professional development and showcase the various options available to them in partnership with Cambridge Assessment English, a branch of Cambridge University.

The session started with a formal welcome from Dr. Yaseen Al Lawatia, Dean-School of Foundation and Acting Dean-College of Pharmacy, who touched upon the importance of continuous professional development for teachers within the community. Participants then attended the breakaway sessions; a sample of a Celta input session with Ms. Michelle Barrett, an overview IELTS courses and testing, and an opportunity to meet Celta graduates, Ms. Asma Said and Mr. Ali Al Kasbi, facilitated by Mr. Nelson P. Vareed. The highlight of the day was a presentation about teacher training routes by Ms. Malake Al Haj, Business Development Manager for Oman, the UAE and Kuwait for Cambridge Assessment English.

The morning finished with a vote of thanks by Dr. Sleem Al Habsi, Head of Department, who thanked the participants for showing a passion for professional development. Participants received certificates of participation and information packs, and enjoyed the opportunity to network informally whilst enjoying refreshments. The School of Foundation looks forward to delivering similar workshops in the future and developing the Celta centre in collaboration with Cambridge English Assessment.
Tutors are currently interviewing for the upcoming Celta courses: full-time (June/July) and part-time (September). Contact for more information.
