The College of Engineering, National University of Science and Technology has organized its 2nd Symposium on Recent Trends in Engineering Research (Nanotechnology and Environmental Science) on 23rd January 2023<\/strong> through online mode. The objective of the symposium is to offer a platform to discuss the recent research trends and advancement in nanotechnology and environmental science. Renowned experts from various countries participated in the symposium followed by a scientific discussion on the topics of process intensification techniques for generating nanomaterials, Sono-process engineering for nanomaterial production and its applications, nanofluids concepts, models, development of green hydrogen production from sewage treatment plant and alternative options towards decarbonization and circular economy with respective to Oman Vision and UN SD Goals.<\/span><\/p>\n

Dr. Salim Al Araimi, Deputy Vice-chancellor and Provost, National University of Science and Technology inaugurated the symposium and welcomed the speakers and other participants. During his welcome address Dr. Salim <\/strong>gave an insight on nanotechnology and environmental science and mentioned about the importance of these areas to our society. <\/span><\/p>\n

Prof Sivakumar from Brunei spoke about the process intensification techniques for the generation of nanomaterial with its relevance to cavitation types and the parameters affecting the cavitation. Prof Shirish from NIT Warangal extensively covered on Sono-process engineering for nanomaterial production and its applications including various cavitation process and limitations. Prof Mohammad Rahman from SQU enlightened the audiences on Nanofluids concepts, models, and interesting results including the development over years with an excellent case study which opens the scope of future research in Nanofluid. Dr Hind Barghash from GU Tech spoke about green hydrogen production from sewage treatment plant and alternative options towards decarbonization and circular economy w.r.t. Oman Vision and UN SD Goals. An excellent study was shown covering the possible inputs, main processing and intended output as hydrogen gas with other volatile substances, simulation for dark fermentation process and the cost benefit analysis prediction on possible revenues. Finally, the vote of thanks given by Prof. Syed Mohammed Rizwan, Chair of the College Graduate Studies & Research, National University of Science and Technology, Oman.<\/span><\/p>\n

The event was convened by Dr. Santosh Walke, and Ms. Noura Al Balushi was the master of ceremony. The College of Engineering acknowledges the contribution of all the participants and extends a sincere appreciation to the speakers for sparing their valuable time for the benefit of the research community.
