College of Engineering, National University (NU) Launches a new Master’s Programme ( MSc)

A new Mater’s Programme in Applied Instrumentation and Control has been officially launched by Dr Salim Khamis Al Araimi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, National University in the Conference Hall, Al Hail Campus of College of Engineering, National University on 1st January 2020 at 1:15 P.M. This new Master’s programme is offered by the Department of Electrical and Communication Engineering from February 2020 in affiliation with Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), U.K.

Professor Ahmed Hassan Al Bulushi, the Dean, College of Engineering gave the welcome address. Dr Ahmed extended a warm welcome to the gathering comprising of various guests and participants from Ministries, Industries, alumni, students, faculty, press, and media. In his welcome address, Prof Ahmed explained the uniqueness of this new MSc programme and its relevance to Oman in terms of meeting the country's needs in training and building intellectual capital with high quality towards NU’s commitment to the society. Prof Ahmed informed that this Master’s U.K degree being offered in Oman will benefit all working Engineers and their families without going abroad for higher studies. The Dean thanked all participants from Ministries & Industry partners, Press & Media and all others for their continuous support to NU in its endeavour.

The audience and the guests have been presented with videos on NU and College of Engineering to have a glimpse of NU legacy and contributions to the nation-building process.

Dr Salim Khamis Al Araimi, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Provost, National University of Science and Technology, in his address spoke on the importance of education and emphasised on how the three colleges (Engineering, medicine and pharmacy) have expanded and improved in terms of better quality education and facilities.  Dr Salim also hinted the plan of opening the new PhD hub which will provide an opportunity to Omanis and non-Omanis to pursue their further education.
The keynote speaker, Engineer Salim Humaid Al-Mahruqi, Founder & Director for Industrial Supplies Center LLC, Advanced Engineering Solutions LLC, and Technical Innovation Services LLC aptly explained the inimitable importance of Instrumentation & Control specialization by giving a couple of examples in aerospace and other industries. Engineer Salim expressed his utmost happiness since nationals have now the maiden opportunity in Oman to study Master’sprogramme in Instrumentation & Control in Oman. He congratulated College of Engineering, NU being the first to offer this programme locally.

Mr Ali Abduallah Hamed Al Mahruqi, Head of Electrical and Communications Engineering Department, College of Engineering evidently presented an overview of the MSc programme in Applied Instrumentation and Control which includes, the need of the programme in Oman, its unique features, faculty expertise both in-house and from GCU, U.K. Mr Ali also presented the details of Module delivery, Degree award criterion, entry requirements, and modes of study.   

A press conference was held towards the end. The conference was chaired by the Dean, College of Engineering with his team from the Engineering Head of Departments. Several comments from the participants were clarified and a couple of questions were answered by the Dean’s team.
