Academic Advising

The goal of academic advising is to assist students in planning meaningful academic activities to obtain the desired degree. The Guidelines for Academic Advising serve as a framework to enhance and improve the advising process and interactions between students, faculty and administrators. NU offers Academic Advising to its students on a fair and equitable basis by advisors who have the skills and training to provide timely academic advice. The Academic Advisor provides a personal and supportive environment in which students can pursue their educational goals.

Every student is assigned an advisor who helps the advisee to:

  • Understand study requirements, including, among other things, course selection, course prerequisites, course sequencing, assessments, and progress towards degree completion.
  • Identify and access campus resources and services in support of student success.
  • Identify and achieve their academic goals.
  • Take advantage of both in/out-of class educational opportunities to become self-directed learners and decision makers.

It is important that students meet their advisors regularly in order to make the right decisions at the right time.
