ASME Student Chapter

The American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) is an international professional organization. The professional society arranges conferences, organizes design contests, showcases new technology, sets ethical standards in engineering and develops codes and standards as well as other mechanical engineering related services.

The Caledonian College ASME Student Section was inaugurated on 10th April 2005 by Dr. Tasneem Pervez, Associate Professor & Chair Department of Mechanical & Industrial Engineering Sultan Qaboos University. It is run by students who share a common interest in Mechanical Engineering.

ASME Student Chapter Activities SEM B 2016-17

  1. BEST Project Competetion-2017 at CoE organized on 24th May 2016, CRI Building.
  2. Mr. Nasr Al Nabhani( Alumin of CoE) / Relationship Manager (SME Development Fund)who is also CEO of his own R&D company named Tatweer delivered a Guest Lecture on" How to start a SME Company in Oman" under ASME Student Chapter activities on 03.04.2017, Monday at Mini conference Hall.
  3. ASME Student chapter organized a Special Software Training Course on" Lab VIEW" on 23.03.2017 from2.00 to 5.00 PM. In this course, Dr.R.A.Kannan who is the trainer of Lab VIEW software dealt about virtual Instrumentation fundamentals, Virtual Instrumentation Application, Lab VIEW tools and how to write software program using Lab VIEW 2014.
  4. ASME Student chapter organised a Guest Lecture on" Project Management" today (14.11.2016) 10.00 to 12.00 PM. Mr. Asad Al Rumithy Who is our guest speaker presented about the smooth execution of Honours level Project to Level 3 and Level 4 Students of MT and CAME along with "Project management Techniques"
  5. Mr. Sadanand / Chief Executive Officer and Mr. Harish/ Head of HR from Al Siraj Holding Company delivered a Guest Lecture on" Instrumentation and Sensors " under ASME Student Chapter activities on 18.10.2016, Tuesday at Assembly Hall.
  6. Engr. Nicolo Pozza from Beninca Technoloy, Italy delivered a Guest Lecture on" Sensors and Controls “under ASME Student Chapter activities today morning (13.10.2016) at Assembly Hall.

AICHE Student Chapter

The American Institute of Chemical Engineers (AIChE) is a professional organization for Chemical engineers, was inaugurated by Chief Guest Mr. Khalid Al Sheyadi,Training Team Leader, ORPIC & Prof. Omar Houache, Sultan Qaboos University on 11th November 2015. AIChE is the premier educational forum for Chemical Engineers to share innovative ideas and knowledge. The aim of AIChE - CoE Chapter is to encourage the professional development activities of Chemical Engineering students who are interested in innovation and professional growth. The chapter provides seminars, workshops and guest lectures particularly in creating enthusiasm and professionalism among the chapter members. Academic and industry experts will cover a wide range of topics relevant to cutting-edge technology and research, and emerging areas in Chemical Engineering.

Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Student Chapter

Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) - Students Chapter at NU-CoE was inaugurated on 1st December 2008 with a guest speech on “Mission and Scope of SPE”. The objective of SPE student chapter at NU-CoE is to update students’ technical knowledge on exploration, development and production of oil & gas resources and related technologies and to enhance their technical and professional competence in these areas.

The following events were held at NU-CoE as a part of SPE activities for the Sem B of AY 2016-17.

SPE Student Chapter Activities SEM B 2016-17

  1. 2nd SPE oratory competition across all CoE students was held on 10th May 2017 in Assembly Hall. Around 20 students have participated in the competition and won exciting prizes.

  5. Guest lecture on “Opportunities and challenges for the fresh chemical and process engineering graduates in Oman” was delivered by Mr. Marwan Khamis Mohammed from Ministry of Defence on 3rd March 2017 at 10 am.
  6. SPE Talent group meeting on Modeling and Simulation was held on 5th March 2017 in PC 006 at 10 am.
  7. SPE orientation programme was held on 22nd March 2017 in Room No PC 37 at 12 pm.
  8. SPE talent group meeting on Research Methodology was held on 11th April 2017 in PC 32.

IMechE Student Chapter:

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE): IMechE Student Chapter was inaugurated on 28th April 2014 at College of Engineering (CoE). The IMechE Student Chapter was launched by Chief Guest Mr Richard Preece (Eng, FiMechE), Dr Ahmed Al Bulushi (Dean, CoE) and Mr Omar Khalaf Al Jabri (Chair, IMechE Student Chapter – CoE). The inauguration ceremony of the Chapter at CoE marks an important step for Mechanical and Industrial Engineering students to be on the right path towards professional engineers.
