Industrial Visits

The industrial visit is also an integral part of an academic process. The industrial visits will enhance the student knowledge and understanding by focusing on the practical aspects of the engineering field. The students are well aware of the safety precautions to be taken prior to the site visit and they are accompanied by the staff members. The students will be given task to prepare the report for the site visit based on the coursework given in the concerned modules. Corporate visits and industrial programs allow our students to explore possible careers, industries and options to which they can aspire. E&COE department is able to add such value and enriched the experience even further, giving the students both a personal and professional perspective of the industry. Our goal is to foster the development and interest among students to develop professionalism and gear up for the challenges in the corporate world.

Seminars

Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Organized “One Day Symposium on Applications of Power Electronic Systems to Renewable Energy” on April 29h, 2015, under the sponsorship of Oman Electricity Transmission Company

Under the patronage of Dr Ahmed Al Bulushi, Dean of the College of Engineering, the Electrical and computer engineering department in cooperation with Oman Electrical Transmission Company (OETC) held a symposium on Applications of Power Electronics in Renewable Energy. The event was inaugurated by Professor Vallavaraj, the Associate Dean of the College of Engineering sponsored by OETC and featured a keynote speech by Mr Hamed Al Maghderi, CEO of Rural Areas Electricity Company (RAECO) and ten technical presentations by a number of experts from academia and industry. The keynote speaker presented the future of renewable in Oman and stated that solar and wind energy are among the best suitable sources of renewable energy for Oman and he presented a pilot project which has been implemented by RAECO in various rural areas in Oman.

The technical presentations addressed a number of important topics such as Future of Renewable Energy in Oman, connecting solar power to the Grid, and the role of power electronics in emerging renewable energy systems.

Prof Khaled Gharaibeh, Head of Electrical Engineering at College of Engineering said that This symposium is part of the research plan of the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department which aims to enhance the research capacity of the department, expose staff and students to the latest research in renewable energy and to promote the Department and the College as a research centre of excellence in Oman and the region.

Prof Gharaibeh added that the symposium provided an avenue for interaction among academic as well as industrial sectors and to explore research avenues in the field of renewable energy. We hope that that such an interaction between scholars from outside the college as well as professionals from the Electric Power industry will result in future collaboration on research.

The event was attended by more than 150 professionals from academia and industry and featured discussions on various research issues related to the latest technologies used for enhancing the performance of renewable energy sources.
