Department Activities

ASME, IMechE, SPE and AIChE Professional student chapters of Mechanical and Industrial Engineering Department at College of Engineering has organized 2nd Edition of BEST PROJECT COMPETITION –on 27th DEC 2017 at CRI Building, Al Hail Campus for its programme students. This intradepartmental competition was held to choose the best level 4 technical project of this semester in each of four UG programmes Viz. Chemical Engineering, Computer Aided Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, and Process Operation and Maintenance program. The main aim of the competition was to encourage our students to take up the innovative, challenging projects and to instill the sense of competition. This event was envisaged to enable student to showcase their technical skill in open forum. This competition enabled students to use and enhance their technical skills, competencies and presentation ability. This also paves a way for the students to build confidence in their practical work. The competition witnessed 21 participants exhibiting their innovative projects.

Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hassan Al Bulushi, Dean of College of Engineering in his speech congratulated each and every participant for their innovative project work and appreciated their sincere efforts. He also added that students to take their projects into the next level for commercialization with passion. In the end of this competition, Prof. Dr. Ahmed Hassan Al Bulushi, Dean and Prof. K.P Ramachandran, Associate Dean (PG Studies and Research) distributed the Best project award to the winning students.

  • Beach clean-up with an edutainment Quiz event at Al Seeb beach area was jointly organized by the MIE department of CoE and HSE department of ICEM (International College of Engineering and Management) on 16th November 2016 on account of Oman's 46th National Day.

  • Participation at students innovative project training hosted by NAMA,
    • Ms. Umaima Al Ajmi (Student No.: 11685, B.Sc.(Hons) Process Operations & Maintenance) has participated in the recently held students innovative project training hosted by NAMA Group. Ms Umaima Al Ajmi’s Project titled “Utilization of banana fiber(stem) for manufacturing carton papers” was shortlisted among various other project proposals ( approx. 304) and she has been asked to pursue further on her project with the given framework of the competition to the next and final level of competition. She is expected to participate in the final competition scheduled in December 2017.
  • Participation at 12th Chemical Engineering gathering event , organized by The Society of Chemical Engineering Qaboos University at Sultan, February 2017.
    • Ms Latifa Al Mandhari had showcased results of her level 4 project on INDUSTRIAL WASTE WATER TREATMENT USING POLYMERIC FLOCCULATION. She has done her project under the supervision of Ms. B M Sangeetha .and secured 3rd place in the event.
    • Ms Shadha Al Mandhari also exhibited the handmade papers resulted from her level 4 project on making of HANDMADE PAPER FROM WASTE CORN STALKS. She has done her project under the supervision of Dr Priy Brat Dwivedi. Certificate of appreciation with trophy was awarded.
